much larger absorption bandwidth to reduces thermal management
requirements for diode lasers, a longer upper-state lifetime, three to
four times lower thermal loading per unit pump power compared with the
commonly used Nd: YAG crystal. Yb:YAG crystal (1030nm) is expected to
replace Nd:YAG crystal (1064nm) for high power DPSS lasers and its
second harmonic ( 515nm ) may replace large volume Ar-ion lasers (
